FAQ

Common questions

Can't find your answer? Email us anytime.

Does the swab hurt my pet?

No. You gently rub a soft swab inside your pet's cheek for a few seconds. There are no needles and no vet visit needed.

Is this a diagnosis?

No. Pawbabilities is a genetic risk screening. A higher risk result does not mean your pet has or will develop a condition. Share your results with your veterinarian, who can decide whether any follow-up is needed.

Which pets can be tested?

Cats and dogs of any breed or mix can be tested. The report is especially helpful for mixed breeds and rescues whose background is unknown. For puppies and kittens, wait until they are weaned before swabbing.

How long until I get my results?

Once our US lab partner receives your sample, it is processed and your report is posted online. We email you as soon as it's ready.

What is MDR1 and why does it matter?

MDR1 is a gene variant that can change how a cat or dog responds to certain common medications. Knowing your pet's MDR1 status helps you and your vet choose medications with more confidence.

What happens with my pet's DNA data?

Your pet's sample is used to create your report and care plan. We don't sell your pet's DNA data.

Where can I buy a kit?

Kits are sold at partner groomers and pet stores. Use the store finder above, or email us and we'll point you to the nearest one.

What should I do if my report shows a higher risk?

Don't panic. Talk with your vet about what the result means for your pet, and look at your care plan for simple everyday ways to support that area.
